What is Digital Work Futures? And Why?

Professor Martin Berg will introduce the Digital Work Futures Research Lab and share insights into our ongoing and planned research. This short presentation will be followed by Professor Jakob Svensson, who will discuss highlights, insights, and reflections drawn from engaging with various aspects of digital work futures research.

Abstract

In this seminar, Jakob Svensson will share highlights, insights, and reflections drawn from engaging with a range of research on digital work futures. This exploration has been largely unstructured, evolving organically from two initial points of departure: the newly established Digital Work Futures Research Lab at Malmö University, where Svensson is a member, and a research initiation grant from RJ titled "Decent and Dignified Digital Work from the Margins – Anticipations from the Global South and Invisible Platform Workers". Building on this foundation, Svensson, in collaboration with others, plans to submit two research applications in 2025. Over seventy books, chapters, articles, and reports have been reviewed, resulting in a comprehensive, one hundred-page document summarising key findings.
